As soon as Bijee enters the building, everyone knows it’s time to “Get Bijee With It!”

This little guy takes his role as a playmate and star pupil very seriously. Since his first day with us in February, Bijee has been giving us all the goofiness that we love and crave at Bark ATL while taking directions like a truly smart puppy.

Here he is on his first day of school back in February:

He’s no shy Bichon…Bijee energetically plays with all his Little Pup Lane classmates all day and blends into our pack seamlessly, although he does get a little quirky at times.

Quirk #1: The Lean. Bijee likes to lean, he really, really likes to lean. Here he is during one of his famous leans…

Oh! Wait, there’s more where that came from!

Quirk #2: Bijee’s afternoon personality (also known as “Sweet B”) who demands to be cuddled and petted twice as much and for twice as long as usual.

And if you’re wondering how often he succeeds at getting those extra hugs and kisses, rest assured he wins every single time!

Quirk #4: Bijee is the prince of post-daycare naps! ‘Nuff said.

He may come in to school super pumped but the ride home is a different story.

“Getting Bijee With It” is hard work for a pup, but who could resist a life that gives this sweet boy (and his Mom and Dad) the chance to enjoy all the wonders of cage free, all day play!

And I saved the best for last… just look at this sweet face.

Who Plays in Mid Hound Lounge?

Every day is a new day at BARK ATL.When the doors open at 7:00 am, we have already fed our boarding pack and they’ve already been outside once, if not twice (all the dogs are early risers around here!). The boarding pack is up and ready to meet and greet all the day care dogs. The dogs start dropping off right at 7:00, and we never know who will be coming for day care from day to day (this may change when we implement reservations some day soon). So one day we may have a rowdy big dog pack, and the next day there are more little dogs running the place! So you may be asking yourself, “Who plays in Mid Hound Lounge?” We have some customers who fear their dog is in “time out” when he’s playing in the middle dog room. What really happens in Mid Hound Lounge?

The ever-changing pack at BARK ATL.

Mid Hound Lounge is a very flexible space, and we use it for many different reasons. Sometimes, we have a handful of large-breed puppies, too small for the big dogs and too large and rough playing for the teeny-tiny dogs. On a day like that, Mid Hound Lounge transforms into a wild puppy playground. Other days, we have a few older dogs, or slower moving dogs. Maybe the dog just had surgery or perhaps he has a disability of some sort. These dogs love Mid Hound Lounge because they get to take it easy and rest most of the day without big or little dogs pestering them. Lots of days we have a few dogs (sometimes big, sometimes little) that are WILD! They just play and play and play, sometimes running around so wildly that the other dogs just don’t get it! These mini packs of hard-core players sometimes need to just go at it and play and play and play with each other until they are a little calmer and ready to integrate into the larger pack. That’s why Mid Hound Lounge is sometimes just a bunch of streaking figures on the BARK Cam!

As you all know BARK ATL is completely cage-free, so if your dog is in Mid Hound Lounge, don’t worry! It’s not a “time out” area. It’s just another spot to play, or sleep, or lounge around, or have some wild romping time at BARK ATL! Our managers and our day care attendants are very aware of each dog’s temperament each day. Just like people, sometimes your dog has a super-hyper fun day and other days can be lazy, chill out days. And every day is a different mix of personalities! We adapt our space to best suit the pack on a daily (and hourly) basis, and you can be assured that your dog will spend his time in the play room best suited to his ever-changing mood!

Splish Splash Doggy Bash 2011

Piedmont Park Conservancy’s Third Annual Splish Splash Doggy Bash was a huge hit this year, raising more than $10,000 for the Piedmont Dog Park! BARK ATL was the presenting TOP DOG sponsor of this two-day celebration. More than 500 dogs and several hundred humans came to join in on the fun. We had a great time (but I dare say not as much fun as the dogs!). Some of BARK ATL’s best and furriest doggy customers came to the party! If you missed it this year, please join us next year for all the craziness! BARK ATL will promote the event on Facebook (and on the blog) as soon as tickets go on sale!

Boarding at BARK ATL – Reminders

BOARDING REMINDERS for the Cage-FREEdom Holiday! (and any other day!)

Reservations are a MUST!

1) We will be VERY busy during holiday boarding – please make your reservation early for 4th of July and any boarding stay. You can make your boarding reservation online by clicking HERE.

Peak Charges

2) Please note there will be a $5.00 peak holiday fee added to most holiday boarding. Click HERE for full list when peak charges apply.

Curbside Check In

3) For your added convenience, our managers will be outside in the back parking lot to check you in during busy boarding holidays (and busy weekends, too). We want you to have face time with managers so that any and all of your valuable questions can be addressed and answered for ultimate peace of mind during your dog’s stay.

What to Bring (and what NOT to bring)!

4) Please do not bring large bags of dog food during your stay. We encourage you to bring a plastic container with your dogs name clearly taped / affixed onto it. Dog food bags are large, heavy and prone to ripping. We want your dog’s food to be fresh and easy to store in our food room!

When you board, we only need food & medicine. Please do not bring toys, beds, dog bowls or extra supplies with you. We assure you we have everything needed to make your dog comfy and happy!

Cancellation Fees

6) We are limited on space and fill up quickly during holidays. If you cancel within 5 days of your reservation, we will charge you one night of boarding (per dog) cancellation fee ($40.00). For this reason, every boarding dog must have a credit card on file to ensure your spot.

Facility Hours

7) Please be aware of our facility hours and make arrangements to drop off and pick up your dog within our operating hours (we are staffed 24/7, but only allow drop offs and pick ups during “open” hours). As a reminder, we are open 7am-7pm M-F and 9am-6pm Sat-Sun.

PLEASE CALL for day care appointment on busy holiday weekends. Day Care will be BY APPOINTMENT ONLY during SAT-SUN on 4th of July weekend!

Adoptable Pet of the Week!!

I was cruising the adoptable list at PAWS Atlanta and came across this sweet fur kid. When I read her story my heart just broke. I can’t believe people would be so cruel to an animal who’s only goal in life is to make you happy. Please help Nilah find a home!!

Here is her story:

Nilah is one of the most mellow and kind-hearted dogs you will ever come across, but she has been through a lot in her young life. She was adopted as a puppy, with her sister, from PAWS Atlanta. 6 years later she showed up, with her sister, at a local animal control. Her owners were nowhere to be found, but her microchip showed that she had come from PAWS. We drove out to get them both right away, and we were horrified by what we saw. They were both emaciated and had possible burns on their paws. Nilah would scream if anyone moved too quickly around her. She has really come a long way since then and meets all sorts of strangers every day. She loves people, being brushed, taking short walks, toys, and treats. She grows more trusting every day and, no matter how scared she is in any given situation, she has never shown aggression. She does not treat people the way she herself was treated. She has been at PAWS Atlanta for a year now, and she is more than ready to get into a good home with people who will be gentle with her and give her the love she deserves.

Adoption Stories with Bark ATL!!

Snoopy’s Adoption Story

We had just gotten married and my husband told me I could get a kitten when we returned from our honeymoon. I felt like I wanted a new little pet to keep me excited after all the wedding festivities were over. So, we returned on Friday and that Saturday we made our way to the Atlanta Humane Society, in search of a kitten. I had already picked out a name and everything – he would be Sebastian Hsu. However, when we got to the Humane Society, they were out of kittens!!! What?! How could they be out of kittens?! I was so surprised because I had researched it and it was prime kitten season time. Apparently, the Humane Society was having its Founders Day special and all pets were $18.73 (the year the Humane Society was founded). So, they were low on adoptable pets that week. My husband said, let’s just take a peek at the puppies. We weren’t going to get one just yet until we moved into a house. But, once we walked in, we caught a glimpse of HIM!

He was being held by this other couple. So, we circled around a bit, tried to eavesdrop to see if they were going to adopt him. To our excitement, they said they would have to think about him and come back. So, this was our time to swoop in! I made my husband follow (stalk) the volunteer as he was putting Rusty (his shelter name) back in his cage, and immediately say…”we’d like to take a look at him.” Once we had him in our arms, we knew it was love at first sight and he was ours forever. We never let go of him and that day walked out with Snoopy Hsu!!!! It was the best decision we’ve made. So, now a year later, Snoopy Hsu is the biggest 55 lb. kitten ever! We went in looking for a kitten (Sebastian Hsu) and came out with the best puppy anyone could have asked for (Snoopy Hsu)!!!!

Bark ATL’s Adoptable Pet of the Week!!

It’s national adopt a cat month so I wanted to highlight an adoptable cat today. I personally am a HUGE fan of orange tabby cats. Every one I have ever owned has been the sweetest, most laid back cat ever. I found this cutie on LifeLine Animal Project’s Facebook page and fell in love. I hope he finds his forever home soon.

His name is Darren and he has two brothers, Earl and Fergus. They haven’t had it easy so far. Their “owner” just dumped them outside while still sedated only a couple of hours after their neuter surgery. The nice people at LifeLine knew these little guys wouldn’t make it through the night so they captured and brought them back to their clinic. They are sweet boys who deserve to have a chance at a forever home so let’s do what we can.
